The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a British national. Naomi Mbelu attempted to smuggle cannabis through Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
Mbelu arrived in Accra on March 22, 2025, at about 12:20 p.m. She was intercepted after getting off Ethiopian Airlines Flight 921. Mbelu had traveled from Bangkok, Thailand, with a layover in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
NACOC officials found 41 black polythene-sealed packages in her luggage. The packages tested positive for cannabis. The total weight of the seized drugs was 21.38 kilograms.
Investigations led to the arrest of two accomplices. Joseph Asoa arranged a visa on arrival for Mbelu and assisted her at the airport. Isaac Anum Sowah was the driver who came to pick her up.
All three suspects are now in NACOC custody. The seized drugs are still under investigation. Authorities are committed to fighting drug trafficking at Ghana’s ports of entry.
