Bryan Acheampong forms committee for viability of his NPP flagbearership bid

Dr. Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, has formed an exploratory committee. This committee will assess the possibility of his presidential bid within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a heartfelt statement, Dr. Acheampong addressed party members and Ghanaians. He said his decision comes from “growing encouragement” from party supporters and consultations with family.

The exploratory committee will present its findings in four weeks. It will engage key stakeholders, grassroots members, and constituents. The goal is to align Dr. Acheampong’s vision with the aspirations of the NPP and Ghanaians.

He emphasized that the party is at a crucial crossroads. This moment requires “unity and a renewed commitment to core values.” The committee will also assess how his leadership can address urgent national priorities.

These priorities include job creation, food security, youth development, safety, and good governance. Dr. Acheampong shared his long-standing involvement in the NPP. He described his political journey as both “lifelong and deeply personal.”

His experience includes grassroots organizing, being a party staffer, and serving as an MP for four terms. He has also been a Minister of State and Cabinet Minister. His diverse background has strengthened his loyalty to the party's ideals.

“I have served the NPP faithfully,” he stated. He has supported many initiatives and helped shape impactful policies. “I will continue to serve,” he added.

To party supporters, Dr. Acheampong offered words of encouragement. He believes in the NPP’s ability to overcome challenges and lead Ghana forward again.

“May we remain steadfast in spirit,” he urged supporters. He called for decorum in pursuing progress, inclusivity, and effective leadership for Ghana.

Dr. Acheampong’s announcement indicates a potential bid for leadership within the NPP ahead of selecting a flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election.
