Bryan Acheampong, former Minister for Food and Agriculture, wants to lead the reconstruction of the Adum PZ Market in Kumasi. The market was recently damaged by a fire.
During his visit to the market, he sympathized with affected traders. He donated GH¢300,000 to support their recovery efforts.
The fire destroyed shops and goods worth thousands of Ghana cedis. Many traders were left devastated by the loss.
Acheampong assured traders of immediate financial relief and long-term support. He said, “I am a trader here just like all those affected.”
He emphasized the need for quick action so traders can return to work soon. However, reconstruction needs approval from the Asantehene, who is currently out of the country.
Acheampong plans to consult with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and local authorities. They will assess what needs to be done for reconstruction.
He stated, “Otumfuo is out of town but will return soon.” He expressed his willingness to engage with him and city officials about rebuilding the market.
Acheampong also mentioned his experience in construction. “I have built the largest hotel in Africa,” he said confidently.
Traders and market leaders appreciated his support and described it as compassionate. The promised reconstruction will begin after consultations with stakeholders and relevant authorities.
