Dr. Clement Apaak, MP for Builsa South, has revealed plans to decentralize the procurement and supply of food items to public secondary schools.

The National Food Buffer Stock Company will no longer handle these responsibilities.

Speaking during a tour of Tema food warehouses, Dr. Apaak explained that funds will soon be released to school heads for direct procurement from suppliers.

This decision follows meetings between key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, and the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS).

The move aims to ensure students receive wholesome, nutritious meals while eliminating middlemen.

Meanwhile, government will begin distributing 139,872 bags of rice to over 900 schools nationwide to address immediate shortages. Distribution starts in Greater Accra and extends to other regions by January 17, 2025.
