Abubakari Abdul Mumin is the new Managing Director of PBC Shea. The shea butter processing factory in Buipe, Savannah Region, is now operational. It aims to support the government's 24-hour economy policy. The factory will run three shifts and create about 30,000 jobs for youth.
Mr. Mumin confirmed that all departments of the factory are functional. He has extensive knowledge of the industry to aid job creation and wealth generation.
In an interview with JoyNews, Mr. Mumin shared his vision for the factory. Former President John Dramani Mahama tasked him with transforming it into a hub for employment and revenue.
He emphasized that this investment aligns with Mahama's economic policy. Upon receiving his appointment, he was given two main responsibilities: creating jobs and generating wealth.
Mr. Mumin plans to implement a three-shift system—morning, afternoon, and night. This approach will engage over 30,000 young people, including women.
President Mahama cut the sod for this multi-purpose factory in 2012. It began processing raw shea into butter and soya beans into oil and cake that same year.
After the 2012 elections, the factory faced managerial challenges with four directors. The most recent director before Mr. Mumin was Madam Gabiana Agbanwa.
Despite these changes, the factory's output remained stable. It still has functional infrastructure like a water plant producing 5,700 gallons daily.
Other facilities include a solvent extraction plant (ACP), oil mill, boiler, laboratory, and DOC room. The factory also has an underground fuel reserve for energy generation.
Over time, it has used DOC to power itself efficiently.
