After nearly 20 years of legal disputes, Naba Alhaji Abuba Nasinmong is now officially recognized as the Paramount Chief of Bunkprugu.
The National House of Chiefs issued this formal recognition on May 7. This marks the end of an 18-year chieftaincy battle in the North East region.
The gazette confirms his status as the legitimate ruler of Bunkprugu. Celebrations erupted across the township, with traditional rituals held in his honor.
Naba Nasinmong became chief in May 2007 after his predecessor's death. His legitimacy was challenged by rival factions, leading to legal battles and community unrest.
In an interview with JoyNews, he expressed that this gazetting strengthens his authority as chief. He believes it will help him pursue development projects for his people.
“The Jafouk family owns most of Bunkprugu land,” he said. “This gazetting allows me to seek benefits for my people.”
He thanked the Mamprugu overlord and pledged allegiance to Naa Buhaga Abdulai Mahami Sheriga II.
Naba Nasinmong shared details about his lineage, emphasizing why he is the rightful chief.
He also appealed to President John Dramani Mahama for support for Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri.
“Your Excellency, we need your help,” he pleaded. “We lack hospitals, roads, schools, and job opportunities.”
He urged the President to resume work on a district hospital project under Agenda 1
