Prof. Kwesi Aning leads the Office for International Cooperation at KAIPTC. He commented on Burkina Faso's growing ties with Russia. He believes this shift should not cause alarm.
His remarks come as Sahelian countries, like Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, move away from Western alliances. They are seeking closer cooperation with Russia in security and economic areas.
During an interview on Channel One TV with Bernard Avle, Prof. Aning defended Burkina Faso’s choices. He criticized what he called Western double standards regarding international relations.
He pointed out that many critics of Burkina Faso still do business with Russia. "Russia has invaded Ukraine," he noted, "yet these countries continue their trade."
Despite sanctions against Moscow, many Western companies find ways to operate there. "They talk about sanctions," he said, "but they still sell goods in big cities."
Prof. Aning emphasized that it is up to Burkina Faso's leadership to choose allies. "I’m not worried about the noise from others," he added confidently.
