Some branch executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Effutu Municipality have rejected Rev. Atta Mensah's nomination as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
The 150 branch executives believe this nomination is unfair. They argue it follows the rejection of Abraham Henry Arthur, the party’s constituency secretary. Arthur was initially nominated by the president but rejected by assembly members.
At a press conference, Frimpong Manso spoke for the group. He is the Ansaful Branch Youth Organiser. He stated that while Atta Mensah is a true party member, his contributions are not as significant as Arthur's.
The members are demanding that Henry Arthur be re-nominated. They also want to exhaust all three confirmation attempts for him. They urge President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider Atta Mensah's nomination.
They believe allowing this nomination will cause disunity within the party. It could weaken their base in the constituency. In a previous attempt, Abraham Henry Arthur received nine yes votes and 17 no votes amid tensions and commotion.
