CDD, MFWA, three other NGOs sue govt over GH₵1bn paid to SML

Five NGOs are pursuing the recovery of over GH₵1 billion paid to Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML), following an audit by KPMG.

The audit, requested by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, revealed that the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) failed to get necessary approvals for its contract with SML, aimed at improving revenue assurance in various sectors.

The NGOs—Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), Human Rights and Governance Centre, and Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA)—have filed a lawsuit against the government, citing breaches of public procurement laws and parliamentary oversight.

They argue that the funds should be recovered and returned to the state.
