The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Thomas Oppong-Peprah, has made history as Ghana’s first-ever 4-Star General, a rank introduced to align with international military standards.
This unprecedented elevation reflects Ghana Armed Forces' (GAF) recent structural expansions, including new commands like the Central and Northern Commands and the Recce Brigade.
President Akufo-Addo announced the promotion during his State of the Nation Address, highlighting its significance in bolstering defense capabilities.
Additionally, key military leaders, including the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, and others, were elevated to ranks aligning with their international counterparts.
General Oppong-Peprah’s illustrious career includes over three decades of service, multiple international assignments, and advanced military education.
His promotion marks a transformative chapter for Ghana’s military leadership.
