CETAG declares indefinite strike over unfulfilled government promises

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has announced an indefinite strike starting December 31, 2024, citing the government's failure to honour key agreements.

The decision follows an emergency meeting on December 20, 2024, where CETAG criticized repeated breaches of a National Labour Commission (NLC) arbitration award and prior agreements, including one signed on August 19, 2024.

CETAG expressed frustration over the government’s unfulfilled commitments, which it says have adversely affected members' welfare and teacher education.

The union is urging stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education and Teacher Trainees Association, to intervene immediately to prevent disruptions to the academic calendar.

CETAG emphasized that diplomatic efforts had been exhausted, leaving the strike as the only recourse to address their grievances.
