CID Confirms Return of 2 Ghanaian Women rescued in Nigeria

DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of CID

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has confirmed the safe return of two Ghanaian women. They were rescued from a human trafficking syndicate in Nigeria.

The victims, Evelyn Serwaa Konadu and Anatasia Baidoo, arrived in Ghana today. According to DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, both women are in stable condition.

At a press briefing at the CID Headquarters in Accra, DCOP Donkor explained how the rescue happened. It was made possible through collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and the National Signals Bureau. The women had been kidnapped and trafficked to Nigeria but were successfully located.

“Earlier this morning, my team and I received the victims at Kotoka International Airport,” she said. “Both women are stable and will receive medical attention.” After that, they will go through standard police procedures for ongoing investigations.

DCOP Donkor emphasized the CID's commitment to crime prevention and national safety. She reassured the public about their dedication to maintaining security.

In addition to discussing the rescue operation, DCOP Donkor warned about rising romance scams and online fraud. She urged everyone to be cautious when interacting with strangers online. Avoid sharing sensitive personal or financial information.

“We urge everyone to exercise heightened caution,” she stated. “Report any suspicious behavior to the Police immediately.”

She concluded by thanking all personnel involved in the rescue mission. She also expressed gratitude to Nigerian authorities and the National Signals Bureau for their cooperation.
