Former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame has criticized the proceedings against suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. He called them a significant departure from Ghana’s legal traditions.
Mr. Dame spoke on Top Story on Joy FM on May 27. He stated, “What is happening is totally alien and offensive to our justice rules.”
His comments come amid debates about the closed-door inquiry into the Chief Justice's removal. Justice Torkornoo has challenged this process and filed an injunction at the Supreme Court.
Mr. Dame noted that the Chief Justice remains composed and anchored in her faith. “She is coping, as she always says,” he remarked.
He added that she believes strongly in the word of God. She draws strength from scripture, saying, “If David could defeat Goliath with a harmless instrument, anything is possible.”
Mr. Dame emphasized that her faith is inspired by historical figures who faced hardships for justice. “She continues to have faith in God’s word,” he said, highlighting her resilience through trials and tribulations.
