Dr. Kwasi Amakye-Boateng, a political scientist at KNUST, criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He believes their interest in the Chief Justice controversy is politically motivated.
During an interview on JoyNews' AM Show, he stated that the NPP's planned demonstration serves their own agenda. He said it does not benefit Ghana.
Dr. Amakye-Boateng described the NPP's position as biased and overly political. He noted that the party often remains silent on critical national issues until it suits them.
He recalled past instances where the NPP ignored public concerns about governance. For example, when a politically exposed person was included in the Electoral Commission, many voiced their concerns, but the NPP stayed quiet.
He also mentioned former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta's economic mismanagement. Initially, the opposition raised alarms about his performance, but the NPP later retreated from supporting those claims.
Dr. Amakye-Boateng questioned whether the NPP has acted in Ghana's best interest in recent years. If they have not, he believes their current actions are purely political.
He pointed out a pattern where the NPP prioritizes internal party interests over national good. This behavior suggests they are more concerned with certain individuals remaining in power within the judiciary.
He analyzed how internal divisions within the NPP were overlooked when they no longer served a purpose for the party. He referenced when they replaced their former Majority Leader amid public division.
In conclusion, Dr. Amakye-Boateng argued that these actions indicate self-serving motives rather than genuine concern for Ghana’s welfare.
