CJ Torkornoo and her lawyers merely barking they cannot bite – Ansa-Asare on injunction

Kwaku Ansa-Asare, former Director of the Ghana School of Law, has spoken out. He commented on the suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo. He believes her legal team is "merely barking" and cannot take action.

Ansa-Asare claims the Chief Justice's injunction undermines the Constitution. He accused her and her lawyers of trying to disrupt a lawful process.

The suspended Chief Justice filed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court. She aims to stop a five-member committee investigating her removal. On May 21, 2025, she requested an injunction to halt all proceedings.

Torkornoo seeks to remove two justices from the panel and quash her suspension by President Mahama. Ansa-Asare expressed concern about this move during an interview on JOY FM.

He stated that stopping the constitutional process would be unconstitutional. He noted that only the president can initiate a Chief Justice's removal process.

Ansa-Asare added that the president has followed all necessary steps in this case. Therefore, halting the process will be very difficult for anyone.

Meanwhile, Edudzi Tamakloe supports Torkornoo's injunction application. He is the Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Tamakloe described Torkornoo's application as refreshing during his talk on CITI FM. He finds it interesting given its implications for justice in Ghana.

He hopes she will receive fair treatment under the Constitution as any citizen would. Tamakloe concluded by expressing optimism about Torkornoo’s situation.
