CJ removal can’t be influenced by President – Osei-Owusu

Former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, spoke about Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. He stated that the President cannot influence her removal process.

Osei-Owusu expressed surprise at the grounds in three petitions circulating online. He discussed this on Channel One’s Newsroom on April 17. He noted that social media can spread misinformation but questioned the credibility of these petitions.

He said, “The process cannot be influenced by the president.” He would be surprised if the grounds in the petitions are genuine.

Osei-Owusu stressed the importance of protecting judicial independence. Any move to remove the Chief Justice should rely on credible evidence.

He added, “If that is truly the content, I will be very disappointed.” He emphasized that it would be embarrassing if such petitions led to her removal. His comments reflect growing public concern over these petitions and their impact on judicial integrity.
