CJ removal saga: Let’s end ‘this whole controversy’ – Dr. Ansa-Asare

Dr. Ansah-Asare, former Director of the Ghana School of Law, wants an end to the legal battles over Chief Justice Getrude Torkornoo's suspension.

On May 27, he spoke on The Pulse on JoyNews. He said halting impeachment proceedings would be unconstitutional. However, he emphasized the need to stop public controversy and let legal processes proceed.

He described the ongoing litigation as a "back-and-forth injunction." He compared it to a table tennis ball that keeps bouncing around. Dr. Ansah-Asare believes this situation harms both the Chief Justice and the nation.

He urged political actors to show restraint and respect established procedures for investigating the Chief Justice. His comments follow Parliament's announcement of new guidelines for removing judges from superior courts.

These proposed guidelines aim to bring clarity and consistency to impeachment processes. They seek to prevent politically charged disputes in the future.

The Chief Justice’s suspension has led to legal conflicts between the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). This issue has sparked intense courtroom battles and debates about constitutional interpretation, judicial independence, and political interference.
