Deputy Chief of Staff Stanislav Xoese Dogbe reaffirmed the government's commitment to democracy. He emphasized the importance of peaceful protest and free expression for all Ghanaians.
Dogbe spoke on Monday, May 5, during a demonstration by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other groups. They presented a petition to the Jubilee House against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's suspension.
While receiving the petition, Dogbe noted recent demonstrations in Ghana. He said citizens exercised their rights without interference from authorities.
He assured that under President John Mahama's leadership, these freedoms will be respected. "We appreciate that your demonstration was peaceful," he stated.
Dogbe highlighted another recent protest that occurred without any restrictions. This shows the government's democratic approach, which differs from previous administrations.
"We will continue to allow peaceful expression in this country," he promised. No one will be stopped from expressing themselves.
He also mentioned that President Mahama has shown strong support for democracy in less than 120 days in office. "This demonstrates his commitment to preserving and growing Ghana's democracy," he concluded.
