CLOGSAG maintains stance against Birth & Death Registrar, warns against political appointments

Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has reaffirmed its opposition to political appointments in the civil service, insisting that leadership positions should be filled through internal selection rather than direct presidential appointments.

CLOGSAG, which has been on strike since February 22, 2025, is protesting the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, arguing that the move undermines civil service neutrality.

Speaking at a forum themed "Guarding the Gate: Labour Unions as Protectors of Service Neutrality," CLOGSAG's Executive Secretary, Bampoe Addo, emphasized that civil service roles like the Registrar position should be filled through promotions, not external appointments.

He warned that the association would fiercely resist any attempts to politicize the civil service, stating, "As civil servants, we must ensure that the principles of anonymity, neutrality, and permanence remain enshrined."
