CLOGSAG suspends strike over Births and Deaths Registry appointment

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has suspended its nationwide strike. This decision allows for further negotiations about Samuel Adom Botchway's appointment as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.

CLOGSAG announced the suspension after an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on March 28, 2025. They stated that the strike was put on hold to continue discussions with relevant authorities.

As a result, all Civil Service and Local Government Service staff must return to work. They are expected back on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.

The strike began after NEC discussions on February 11, 2025. Concerns were raised about appointing politically exposed individuals to key civil service roles.

CLOGSAG decided to take industrial action if Mr. Botchway took office. When he officially started his role on February 12, 2025, CLOGSAG followed through with their plan. They began a nationwide strike on February 20, instructing members to stay home indefinitely in protest.
