The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) will resume rehabilitating farms affected by the Cocoa Swollen Shoot Virus Disease (CSSVD).
Dr. Ransford Abbey, the CEO of COCOBOD, shared this news. During the 2021-2022 cocoa season, they rehabilitated 40,000 hectares out of 156,000 hectares affected. These rehabilitated farms were handed over to farmers.
However, 27,000 hectares were abandoned due to financial challenges. The rehabilitation process includes cutting down diseased trees and treating the farms.
They will also replant with disease-tolerant and high-yielding cocoa varieties. The timeline for this process has not been provided.
