CRC ramps up nationwide consultations, over 500 submissions received

The Constitution Review Committee (CRC) is in a crucial phase. It has been three months of public consultations to review Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.

On Saturday, the Chairperson, Prof. Henry Kwasi Prempeh, shared progress on social media. The committee received over 500 written submissions from individuals and organizations.

The eight-member committee conducted 12 thematic stakeholder engagements so far. They held five meetings with identifiable interest groups and eight eminent person engagements.

Discussions covered key governance areas like lands, local government, and anti-corruption. Upcoming engagements will address themes such as chieftaincy and citizenship.

The committee plans zonal forums in several cities including Accra and Kumasi. They will also hold a virtual town hall for the Ghanaian diaspora soon.

Additionally, a live X (formerly Twitter) Space is scheduled for May 19. Social media influencer Kaly Jay will host this event to enhance citizen engagement online.

Eminent personalities consulted include former Presidents John Mahama and J.A. Kufuor. Other notable figures include Speaker Alban Bagbin and former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo.

The committee's work aims to align the Constitution with current governance needs and citizen expectations.
