The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Agriculture, Aquaculture, and Fisheries has demanded the resignation or dismissal of the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, and his deputies due to their failure to tackle illegal mining (galamsey).
The coalition criticized the Ministry’s handling of the crisis, which has severely impacted the environment and livelihoods.
They called for immediate cessation of galamsey activities, restoration of degraded lands, and prosecution of offenders.
Additionally, they proposed a National Anti-Galamsey Steering Committee, deployment of security forces to affected areas, and support for sustainable mining practices and affected communities.
