Mussa Dankwah, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, has advocated for the creation of a state prosecution department led by career prosecutors, free from political interference.
His comments come in response to the Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine’s decision to withdraw charges against former NDC officials, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and Anthony Kwaku Boahen, who were involved in a controversial case dating back to December 2019.
Dankwah argues that the current system allows for political manipulation, with accusations of witch-hunting arising when governments change.
He highlighted the independence of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), suggesting that similar independence in state prosecution could resolve these concerns.
As Ghana reviews its constitution, Dankwah urges addressing this issue to avoid future political bias in legal proceedings.
