The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has responded to the Minority in Parliament. They refuted calls for a load management timetable. The Ministry stated that Ghana's power generation capacity is sufficient. This holds true even during peak hours.
In a press release on May 19, the Ministry called the Minority’s request “misplaced.” They insisted there is no need for a load-shedding timetable now. The release emphasized that current capacity meets peak demand.
The response came after the Minority urged the government to publish a clear timetable. They cited ongoing erratic power supply affecting households and businesses. They also mentioned essential services being impacted.
During a press conference, they criticized the government's "deceptive silence." They accused the Ministry of Energy and ECG of mismanaging an unannounced return to "dumsor."
Richmond Rockson, Esq., signed the release as Spokesperson for the Energy Ministry. He acknowledged challenges within the power distribution system but noted these were inherited issues. He emphasized that both government and industry players are working hard to resolve them.
"The Government remains committed to providing consistent electricity," he added.
