Cape Coast Mayor applauds timely payment of Assembly Members’ allowance

Mayor George Justice Arthur of Cape Coast praised a new directive. The Ministry of Local Government will pay monthly allowances to Assembly Members. He called this a timely and commendable intervention.

In an interview with Amansan Krakye, he shared his thoughts. Arthur noted the financial strain that comes with being an Assembly Member. He spoke from his own experience in that role.

Many Assembly Members in Cape Coast are currently unemployed. The new allowance will help ease their financial burdens significantly.

“Our President, John Dramani Mahama, has fulfilled another campaign promise,” he said. “He is ensuring monthly allowances for Assembly Members.”

Arthur highlighted the challenges faced by these officials. When issues arise in communities, people turn to their Assembly Member first. This often leads to financial constraints for them.

The Mayor believes the allowance will motivate Assembly Members. It will also provide much-needed relief for those who serve without consistent support.

“I know many Assembly Members here are unemployed,” he added. “This change will greatly uplift their finances.”
