Cash and Gold Bust: Revealing details now could help criminals escape—Agalga

James Agalga, the Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee, addressed concerns from the Minority. They are worried about updates on the Sapeiman gold and cash raid. This operation occurred nearly two months ago.

On Eyewitness News, Agalga defended his committee's actions. He emphasized that national security must come first.

He noted that the committee previously invited the Ministers for Defence and Interior to provide updates. They attended and briefed the committee on certain matters.

Agalga suggested that the Minority could have requested another briefing. He said they should have used their privileges to summon the ministers again.

He explained that ongoing investigations require discretion. Revealing details too soon could hinder efforts to catch suspects still at large.

Agalga stated that those in custody are providing useful information. The authorities are pursuing other individuals who are on the run.

He criticized the Minority for not exploring their options for updates. He warned that revealing too much could allow criminals to escape.

Agalga assured the public that updates will come when appropriate. The responsible ministers will provide a detailed account in due time.

“For now, we won’t disclose more information,” he said. “At an appropriate time, we will share what has been done regarding interceptions.”
