Catholic Bishop of Goaso Diocese solicits stakeholder collaboration to ensure peace

The Catholic Bishop of Goaso Diocese, Most Rev Peter Kwaku Atuahene, has called for collaboration among key stakeholders in the Ahafo Region. He wants to ensure peace and stability in the area.

This appeal comes after a series of violent incidents in the region. In the last three months, there have been five deaths, several injuries, and property damage.

One incident involved Richard Antwi Agyei, a 30-year-old nurse. He was allegedly assaulted by police officers and later died after his arrest for possessing illegal substances.

Another case occurred in Sankore. Akwasi Adu, a sawmill operator, was killed during a gunfire exchange with police while resisting arrest.

Additionally, three people were shot dead near Bechem for alleged illegal logging activities.

Recently, students at Hwediem Senior High School protested against poor conditions at their school. They cited issues like unsanitary facilities, unapproved fees, and inadequate infrastructure.

Although the police have promised to hold criminals accountable, insecurity remains a concern for residents. This situation has sparked discussions among locals about safety.

Many concerned citizens, especially youth from the region and abroad, are urging the Regional Security Committee (REGSEC) to improve peace efforts. REGSEC is led by Charity Ghardinar, the Regional Minister.

Most Rev Kwaku Atuahene warned that ongoing lawlessness could deter potential investors and tourists. He expressed concern that existing businesses might also be affected by this instability.

He encouraged residents—especially young people—to embrace Easter's message of peace and love from Jesus Christ. He urged them to resolve conflicts peacefully and foster harmony in their community.
