Catholic Church will expand its outreach under Pope Leo XIV – Fr Gyaewu

Rev. Fr. Felix Baffour Gyaewu, Chancellor of the Kumasi Archdiocese, is optimistic about the Roman Catholic Church. His hopes follow the election of Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as Pope Leo XIV. The conclave in Vatican City concluded with this historic decision.

In an interview on Channel One Newsroom on May 8, Fr. Baffour Gyaewu shared his thoughts. He believes Pope Leo XIV’s missionary background will shape his papacy.

When asked about the new Pope's priorities, he mentioned evangelism and outreach. “This particular Pope has been a missionary,” he said. He expects the Pope to use his experience to lead the Church effectively.

Fr. Baffour Gyaewu envisions a Church that reaches out to others. He wants a Church that is not isolated but actively seeks the lost. It should be present with people, speaking for them and assisting them.

He suggested that the Church is ready to expand its missionary efforts. It aims to reaffirm its commitment to support vulnerable communities worldwide.
