Cedi appreciation: Mahama govt building on NPP's foundation - Tabitha Ayillah

Tabitha Apegyine Ayillah, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), responded to criticisms from the National Democratic Congress (NDC). She addressed these comments regarding the economy's current state.

Ayillah stated that the John Mahama government is building on foundations laid by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. She spoke on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana about efforts to strengthen the economy and improve the cedi's value.

She expressed her support for any appreciation of the cedi. "Even if it reaches 1 cedi to a dollar today, I will be happy," she said. This improvement would benefit everyone, regardless of political affiliation.

Ayillah challenged NDC claims about economic policies. "If they say our gold reserve has no impact, that's their problem," she noted. She questioned what actions the NDC has taken to help with cedi appreciation.

She highlighted NPP achievements in building gold reserves and servicing loans. "They are using what we left behind," she said. The NPP has provided over three months of import cover and serviced loans that remain unpaid by the NDC.

Ayillah also criticized the NDC's ability to implement its flagship programs, like a 24-hour economy. She mentioned hearing they would service loans soon but questioned their progress. "Have they paid anybody? NO!" she exclaimed.

She pointed out that without spending, expectations cannot be met. The NDC has not even implemented its 24-hour economy program yet. With ongoing power crises under an 8-hour economy, she asked how they could manage a 24-hour system effectively.
