Eric Nartey Yeboah is the Greater Accra Regional Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He blames the party’s loss in the 2024 elections on centralized power under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
In an interview with Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Original TV, he explained his views. He said that power concentrated in Akufo-Addo's hands sidelined NPP leadership. This centralization significantly contributed to the party's electoral defeat.
Mr. Nartey Yeboah argued that Akufo-Addo and his family acted as if the party was irrelevant. This attitude alienated key decision-makers within the NPP. Most decisions affecting the party were made at the Presidency without consulting broader leadership.
He stated that this approach undermined unity and effectiveness during the campaign. Additionally, he pointed out issues with some of the President’s appointees. Their arrogance and disregard for party leadership also played a role in NPP's downfall.
He cited Opoku Ahweneeeh Danquah, who was appointed to GNPC. After their loss, he reportedly returned to London without showing commitment to the party.
Mr. Nartey Yeboah’s comments highlight internal problems within the NPP. They reveal how centralized leadership and lack of unity led to their defeat in 2024. “These are people who did not help form the party,” he remarked about those given important positions without serving its interests.
