The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has addressed rumors about its National Chairman, Stephen Ntim. He recently withdrew from the ongoing ‘Thank You Tour’.
The party released a statement explaining his temporary absence. According to the NPP, Ntim stepped away to attend to pressing matters.
Richard Ahiagbah, the party’s Director of Communications, signed the statement on May 1. It clarified that Ntim is taking a short break for important reasons.
This announcement followed Kennedy Agyapong's withdrawal from the tour after a stabbing incident. Some people speculated that internal issues caused Ntim's departure from the tour.
During a press conference on May 1, Ahiagbah addressed these rumors. He emphasized that Ntim's break is to prepare for a demonstration on May 5th.
Ahiagbah stated, “We want to be clear that this break allows him to lead us.” The demonstration aims to protest against President Mahama and the NDC’s actions regarding the judiciary.
The opposition NPP and four minor parties plan this demonstration for May 5th, 2025. They are responding to Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkonoo's suspension by President Mahama.
These parties view her suspension as an attack on judicial independence. They believe it undermines the country's legal system.
