Chairman Wontumi's arrest justified - Pratt

Kwesi Pratt Jnr., the editor-in-chief of Insight Newspaper, defended EOCO's arrest of Bernard Antwi-Boasiako. Antwi-Boasiako is known as Chairman Wontumi and is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP.

On Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, he spoke on May 28, 2025. Mr. Pratt said that arrest methods are not up to individual choice. This is especially true when someone is suspected of a crime.

He questioned the idea of a "rambo style" arrest for such a prominent figure. He asked if it makes sense to send unarmed men to arrest him in Kumasi. Would it be wise to use only two people for this task?

Mr. Pratt explained that arresting agencies decide how to approach arrests based on risks involved. He urged critics of the "rambo style" to consider these factors carefully.

He stated that arrests should follow legal procedures and protect the accused's rights. “All arrests must be according to law,” he emphasized.

Pratt warned against arbitrary arrests for political reasons. Such actions can suggest some individuals are above the law, which is problematic.

He believes that laws should apply equally to everyone, without bias or favoritism.
