Chairman Wontumi to report to CID again today

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, will report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. This is part of ongoing investigations into alleged illegal mining activities.

Wontumi first visited the CID Headquarters in Accra on Monday, May 26. He arrived around midday with a legal team led by former Attorney General Godfred Dame.

According to a police statement from Superintendent Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Wontumi faces three main allegations:

1. Mining without a license.
2. Polluting water bodies.
3. Entering a forest reserve without permission.

The police stated that Wontumi cooperated fully with investigators. He provided a formal statement and was granted bail pending further inquiries. He must return to the CID at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
