The Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Neenyi Ghartey VII, has called for an end to violence in Bawku. He made this appeal during the 29th Congregation of UEW on Saturday, April 26.
Neenyi Ghartey VII spoke as both Chancellor and a concerned Ghanaian citizen. He urged, “Let peace reign, let the guns go silent.”
He highlighted the severe impact of conflict on families and children. The ongoing violence is damaging Bawku's rich culture and industrious spirit.
“Bawku is known for its strength and resilience,” he said. “But today, that spirit is being tested.” Families are suffering, children cannot attend school, and livelihoods are collapsing.
The Chancellor emphasized that national development cannot thrive amid conflict. “We cannot educate a nation while part of it burns,” he stated.
He urged all stakeholders to promote peace instead of violence. Conflict only leads to suffering and destruction for everyone involved.
