Charge 2 cedis, not 1 cedi – Opambour backs dumsor levy

Prophet Ebenezer Adarkwa Yiadom, known as Opambour, supports the Energy Sector Levy. This levy is often referred to as the dumsor levy.

Opambour believes the government should charge 2 cedis instead of 1. He stated, “Charge 2 Ghana cedis, not 1 cedi,” according to Metro TV.

The Energy Sector Levy Amendment Bill 2025 increases the levy on petroleum products by GH¢1. President John Mahama has signed this bill into law.

Mahama explained that energy sector debt has hindered economic growth for years. The new levy aims to eliminate these debts and resolve the energy crisis.

While signing the bill on June 5, 2025, Mahama emphasized its importance. He said it would help create lower tariffs and better service for Ghanaians.

Mahama assured citizens that this levy is a temporary solution. He expressed hope that they would eventually relieve Ghanaians of this burden.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) plans a nationwide strike on June 10. They are protesting against the GH¢1 levy on petroleum products.

The GPRTU represents over 200,000 drivers and vehicle owners across the country. They argue that this decision was made without proper consultation.
