Charles Bissue and Andy Owusu granted GH₵200,000 bail each

A former Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) and Andy Owusu, an aide to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have been granted bail.

The High Court in Accra set their bail at GH₵200,000 each. They appeared in court on May 6 for 15 criminal charges filed by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). Their pleas were formally taken during this session.

After brief proceedings, the court admitted them to bail. Each must provide two sureties, with one needing to be justified.

The case has been adjourned to May 29, 2025, for a Case Management Conference (CMC). This step will help clarify issues and set timelines for the trial.

Legal representatives chose not to comment after the session.

The charges were filed on April 28. They allege that between January and February 2019, Mr. Bissue accepted bribes totaling GH₵35,000 from Benjamin Adjapong. He allegedly did this directly and through Owusu to expedite a mining license renewal for ORR Resources Enterprise without proper documentation.
