Chief Imam calls for peace in Bawku

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has called for peace in Bawku and other conflict areas in Ghana. He urged for divine intervention to resolve ongoing tensions.

His comments were made during a visit from GCB Bank PLC. The delegation was led by Mr. Sina Kamagate, Executive Head of Retail Banking.

During the meeting at his residence in Fadama-Accra, the 106-year-old cleric prayed for national stability. He highlighted Bawku, Walewale, and Yendi as communities needing reconciliation.

“May Allah grant our country peace and harmony,” he said. He added that where there is no peace, may Allah restore it.

“We pray for Bawku and Walewale,” he continued. “May Allah solve the problems there. We also pray for Yendi.”

Bawku is in the Upper East Region and faces recurring chieftaincy and ethnic tensions that can become violent. Religious and traditional leaders have called for dialogue and sustainable peace efforts in these areas.

The Chief Imam’s prayers also included support for national leadership. He asked God to inspire President Akufo-Addo and his appointees with wisdom.

“We pray for the President of our country,” he said. “May God grant him support and loyalty from his appointees.”

He expressed hope that their policies would benefit Ghana. “May they help him achieve goodness for our country,” he added.

He also prayed for all Ghanaians, including those with unspoken needs. “Whatever we have prayed for, may Allah grant it to us,” he said.

The GCB Bank delegation donated a large bull and cash to support the Chief Imam's Eid al-Adha celebrations. This donation is part of the bank's CSR efforts to strengthen ties with religious communities.

GCB Bank plans to launch a new "Hajj Account" soon. This account will help Muslims save money for their pilgrimage to Mecca, reinforcing its inclusive financial strategy.
