Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo Suspended by President Mahama
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has been suspended by President John Mahama. This follows complaints made in three separate petitions against her.
After reviewing Torkornoo's responses, Mahama found substantial grounds for the allegations. He announced the suspension on April 22, 2025. The decision aligns with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution.
A five-member committee will investigate the allegations against her. The committee includes:
- Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, Supreme Court - Chairman
- Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu, Supreme Court - Member
- Daniel Yaw Domelevo, Former Auditor-General - Member
- Major Flora Bazaanura Dalugo, Ghana Armed Forces - Member
- Professor James Sefah Dzisah, University of Ghana - Member
The investigation aims to address the serious concerns raised in the petitions.
