Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo has addressed chiefs involved in selling parts of the Sakumo Ramsar site. She urged them to provide alternative land for affected individuals.
After the second day of demolitions, Ocloo expressed satisfaction with the progress. She also showed empathy for those impacted by the demolitions. "I empathize with them," she said, "but they must stay off the Ramsar site."
Ocloo emphasized that this action is necessary for everyone's benefit. Municipal Chief Executive Ludwig Teye Totimeh reported that over 60% of illegal structures have been cleared. The remaining buildings are set for demolition on Thursday, May 29.
By Day 2 of the operation, crews had reached the water body. They cleared a significant area and revealed an unobstructed view of the river. This exercise began on Tuesday, May 27, as part of a government initiative to reclaim protected wetlands from unauthorized developments.
