Chip-embedded passport: Roman Fada commends Ablakwa, govt

Philip Appiah Kubi, known as Roman Fada, leads the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP). He praised Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for a new passport.

The new passport is chip-embedded and was unveiled on April 28, 2025. The ceremony took place at the Passport Office in Accra.

Ablakwa announced that the old biometric passport will no longer be issued. During the event, he presented a chip-embedded passport to Chief of Staff Julius Debrah.

This new passport features 175 security elements. In contrast, the old one had only 32 security features.

The initiative aims to enhance passport security and eliminate intermediaries. It also promotes transparency within the system.

Launched on December 2, 2024, these passports replace current biometric ones. They meet international standards and highlight Ghana’s cultural identity with Adinkra symbols.

Roman Fada commended Ablakwa for this innovative step. He believes it supports the government's digitalisation efforts and fosters development.
