Chip-embedded passport: Roman Fada commends Ablakwa, govt

Philip Appiah Kubi, known as Roman Fada, leads the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP). He praised Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for a new passport initiative.

Roman Fada called the chip-embedded passport innovative. He believes it enhances the government's digitalization efforts.

Mr. Ablakwa introduced the new passport at a ceremony in Accra on April 28, 2025. He announced that the Passport Office will stop issuing old biometric passports.

During the event, Mr. Ablakwa presented a chip-embedded passport to Chief of Staff Julius Debrah. The new passport features 175 security elements, while the old one had only 32.

This initiative aims to improve passport security and eliminate intermediaries. It also promotes transparency in the process.

The upgraded chip-embedded passports were launched on December 2, 2024. They replace current biometric passports and meet international standards. The design incorporates Ghana’s cultural identity through Adinkra symbols.

“I commend the Minister for this great initiative,” Roman Fada said to the media yesterday. He believes it will boost digitalization and promote development in Ghana.
