Christ the King youth lead blood donation campaign

The Young Christian Workers Movement (YCWM) of Christ the King Catholic Church is dedicated to saving lives. They organized their annual blood donation exercise with health institutions. This event attracted many voluntary donors to meet the country's urgent blood needs.

This initiative is part of YCWM’s mission to support national health efforts. It also aims to promote voluntary blood donation among youth and the community.

For over fifteen years, YCWM has led this life-saving campaign. The latest blood donation exercise took place on Sunday at Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra. Parishioners and health professionals gathered for this important event.

Medical staff from the 37 Military Hospital were present to assist donors. They ensured everything ran smoothly, with both first-time and regular donors participating enthusiastically.

Flight Lieutenant Rashid Bashiru spoke during the event. He is a Medical Laboratory Scientist at the Blood Bank Department of the 37 Military Hospital. He urged Ghanaians to view voluntary blood donation as a civic duty.

“A single unit of donated blood can save up to three lives,” he said. “Donating even twice a year could save six lives annually.” He stressed that individuals should take responsibility for supporting the national blood supply.

He encouraged citizens not to wait for special campaigns but to donate regularly at nearby hospitals.

Ms. Lucy Dzata, President of YCWM, emphasized their commitment to blood donation efforts. “For more than fifteen years, we have organized these drives,” she stated. “It helps maintain adequate blood supplies in our hospitals.”

Some donors shared personal reasons for participating in the event. They expressed their desire to save lives and inspire others to do the same.

YCWM plays a vital role in promoting health and community service in Ghana. Their partnership with the 37 Military Hospital highlights collaborative efforts in strengthening healthcare systems across the country.
