Asiedu Nketia, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), addressed party members. He emphasized that cleaning up the system does not mean removing all New Patriotic Party (NPP) members from their positions.
Nketia stated that under John Dramani Mahama, the NDC represents the interests of Ghanaians. The party will not remove people from office solely based on their NPP affiliation.
He noted that during the NPP's time in power, competent individuals were removed due to their ties with the NDC. This practice did not benefit their government, as many unsuitable appointments were made.
Nketia believes not all NPP members in public service are corrupt. Those who are honest should remain in their roles to serve the country effectively.
He clarified, “Cleaning up does not mean replacing NPP members with NDC members.” He criticized the idea that this is how governance should work. Instead, he stressed that they aim to represent national interests and hold accountable those who commit crimes.
“For governance, we focus on meritocracy,” he added. He highlighted the importance of having capable people in positions of power. Reflecting on past experiences, he urged learning from history to avoid repeating mistakes.
