Close down witch camps …they are symbols of societal neglect  - AI

Amnesty International (AI), Ghana, has called on the government to close witch camps. They urge a gradual process for reintegrating accused individuals into society.

The organization states that these camps are not safe havens. Instead, they represent societal neglect and lack basic necessities. Residents face limited access to water, housing, food, and security.

AI emphasizes that reintegration should include support systems. These should cover housing, healthcare, and economic empowerment programs.

Ms. Genevieve Partington is the Country Director of AI Ghana. She made this statement in Accra during the launch of a research report on witchcraft accusations in Ghana.

AI describes these "witch camps" as places of fear and injustice. They highlight the need for change in how society treats accused individuals.
