Cocoa farmers let down: Minority caucus calls for urgent price adjustment

The Minority Caucus is urging the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and the NDC government to act. They want an immediate increase in the cocoa producer price.

This call comes after COCOBOD announced on April 9, 2025, that prices will stay the same for the 2025/2026 season.

At a press conference in Kumasi on April 14, Isaac Yaw Opoku spoke out. He is the Minority Caucus Spokesperson and MP for Offinso South. He expressed disappointment, calling this decision a major setback for cocoa farmers.

Opoku said, “We’re here today to voice our concerns over the government’s failure to adjust the cocoa price.” He referenced a letter from COCOBOD about price adjustments released on April 8, 2025.

He also highlighted confusion caused by COCOBOD's mixed messages. The Public Affairs Department later told the public to ignore previous statements about price announcements. They provided two different reasons for not adjusting prices.

Opoku did not hold back his criticism. He stated, “We are shocked and deeply disappointed.” He emphasized that both releases indicate COCOBOD and the NDC government will not raise cocoa prices for the upcoming season.
