The Mahama administration is committed to public accountability. They are focusing on enforcing the Code of Conduct for public officers.
A government representative spoke on TV3's KeyPoints programme. He highlighted the need for standards to protect public resources. Appointees must be held accountable for their actions.
“The Code of Conduct aims to prevent abuse of public resources,” he said. It also checks the behavior of the President’s appointees.
The President is serious about enforcing these standards, according to the official. He noted that President Mahama has a strong track record.
Under President Mahama, a new tone is being set. This contrasts with a past where breaches went unpunished. “In the past, people acted without consequences,” he stated.
Now, there is no tolerance for impunity. “We have moved from no sanctions to having sanctions,” he emphasized.
The official explained that enforcement is underway but faces delays. Some appointees were named after deadlines for compliance had passed.
He mentioned that the Attorney-General’s office will clarify this issue.
“We need to wait for the A-G to review everything,” he said. Some appointments occurred after the latest deadline, causing confusion.
“We will get an update from the A-G on what actions will take place,” he added.
