The Committee on Petitions recently met with Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin. They sought guidance on their mandates.
Speaker Bagbin explained the committee’s role as outlined in Order 223 of the Standing Orders. He emphasized that addressing grievances is a key function of Parliament. The new Standing Orders included a dedicated committee for petitions to fulfill this need.
Committee Chairman Hon. Kwame Appiah Kodua thanked the Speaker for his advice. He appreciated the clarity provided on handling petitions effectively.
This Committee is one of 44 in Parliament. It is chaired by a member not part of the government.
