Commuters decry deteriorating Damongo-Sawla-Bole road, demand urgent repairs

Drivers and passengers on the Damongo-Sawla-Bole road are asking for urgent repairs. They say the road's poor condition makes travel difficult and dangerous. This is especially true with the rainy season approaching.

The Damongo-Sawla-Bole road is part of a larger project. It was built in 2012 and opened in 2015. Now, it has severely deteriorated and poses risks to travelers.

Some drivers spoke to Channel One News about rising armed robberies along this route. They called for more security patrols to protect commuters. The bad road conditions also lead to frequent vehicle breakdowns.

One driver explained that slow travel makes them vulnerable to robbers. Passengers shared their frustrations about long travel times due to the road's state. This has caused transportation fares to increase sharply.

They highlighted challenges in transferring pregnant women and sick patients quickly. "We need better security because the road is too bad," one passenger said. Another added that transporting pregnant women is always problematic.

Mumuni Mohammed, an Assembly Member, noted that the road began deteriorating while still under construction. He pointed out that despite being less than ten years old, it has become very dangerous. There are more incidents of armed robbery and vehicle breakdowns now.

"Ten years later, parts of the road are in terrible shape," he said. Commuters and vehicle owners are understandably worried about safety on this route.
