Concerned NPP lawyers accuse Sampson Anyenini of unethical conduct

A group called Concerned Lawyers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has criticized Sampson Lardy Anyenini. They accuse him of unethical and unprofessional conduct as the host of Newsfile on Joy News.

The statement was released on Sunday, May 18, 2025. It claims Mr. Anyenini, a lawyer himself, has made “unprovoked and slanderous attacks” against Kennedy Agyapong. Agyapong is a prominent NPP member and former MP.

The lawyers stated they must defend the integrity of Ghana's judiciary. They also aim to protect Agyapong’s professional and personal reputation. They believe Mr. Anyenini’s comments crossed ethical journalism boundaries.

According to the Concerned NPP Lawyers, Mr. Anyenini consistently portrays Agyapong negatively. He makes serious allegations without allowing Agyapong to respond. The lawyers argue this violates media responsibility principles like fairness and balance.

They criticized Mr. Anyenini for using defamatory language on his show. Phrases like “lootocratic politics” suggest Agyapong gained wealth through illegal means or corruption in judicial matters. The group insists these claims lack evidence and have been dismissed in court.

The statement said such conduct does not meet journalistic ethical standards. They noted that failing to provide a right of reply breaches the Ghana Journalists Association Code of Ethics.

The lawyers expressed concern about Mr. Anyenini’s comments regarding judges as well. They argue he implies some judges are involved in treasonous behavior or judicial bias.

“Mr. Anyenini’s tendency to criticize the judiciary is troubling,” they claimed, “especially when he glorifies dissenting opinions.”
